Born in Leningrad in 1936, A.Katz received his first musical education in Special Music School at the Leningrad Conservatory. Since 1955, A.Katz studied at A. Satanovsky in Sobinov Saratov Conservatory and consequently at post-graduate courses at N. Yemelianova's class in Moscow Conservatory. Anatoly Katz is a laureate of All-Union Piano Competition (1963) and Smetana International Competition (Prague, 1963), honoured artist of Russia, professor at Saratov Conservatory, full member of the Academy of Russian Art.
While still student, Anatoly Katz started to give concerts with famous instrumentalists and vocalists, such as S.N.Knushevitsky, I.Oistrakh, N.Shakhovskaya, M.Rostropovich, M.Khomitzer, N.D.Schpiller, A.Mikhlin etc.
Since 1963, Anatoly Katz has been giving solo, symphonic and chamber concerts across the former USSR, with repertoire reaching from French clavecinists compositions to premiere performances of contemporary works.
Anatoly Kats has toured in China, Poland, the former Yugoslavia, Hungary, Italy, Spain and the USA. Since 1992, he has been giving masterclasses in various cities in Italy, Croatia, South Korea, and, since 2001, at Colmar festival.
He was a juror at All-Russian Piano Competition (Kazan, 1997), International Governor's Competition of Pianists (Saratov, 2000), International Rachmaninov Piano Competition (Moscow, 2002) as well as at international competitions in Cagliari, San Remo, Taranto, Agropoli etc.
The pianist's recordings include an LP under Supraphon label (Czechoslovakia) and several CDs issued in Russia and Italy. Presently, Anatoly Katz is the Artistic Director of Schnittke Philharmonic Society in Saratov.
