The opening ceremony of the 2nd Moscow Sviatoslav Richter International Piano Competition featuring performance by the winner of the 1st Richter Competition was held in the Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory on June 15.

The winner of the first prize of the first Sviatoslav Richter International Piano Competition, Eldar Nebolsin, accompanied by the Moscow Symphony Orchestra under the baton of maestro Vladimir Ziva, played the piano concerto No. 1 in D minor by J. Brahms.

April, 2008

Makoto Ueno, the second prizewinner of the 1st Sviatoslav Richter international piano competition, has visited Moscow as part of his concert tour that included Norway, Latvia and Russia. In Saratov, Russia, Mr. Ueno gave a highly acclaimed recital at H. Neuhaus festival. While in Moscow, the pianist attended Sviatoslav Richter grave at Novodevichye cemetery.


April 10, 2008

A press conference has been held today with participation by the minister for culture and mass communications of Russia A. Sokolov, the president of Sviatoslav Richter International Piano Competition Foundation E. Virsaladze, the Foundation director A. Rosenberg, Gosconcert director general K. Vorobiev and a member of the Competition Honorary Board A. von Knoop. The conference topic was the Competition's importance and its features.

More than 111 applications were submitted from 31 country, 42 applications being from Russia.

The names of accepted participants and jury members have been announced.


March 2008

The preselection auditions for the 2nd Sviatoslav Richter international piano competition have been finished. All applicants have been notified of the result.

On April 10, a press conference shall be held at RIA Novosti with participation of the Russian Minister for culture and mass communication A. S. Sokolov where the preselection results as well as the competition jury members will be announced. On the same day, the information will be placed on the Competition website.


December 2007

An assent has been reached regarding recording and issuing a CD of the winner of the Second Sviatoslav Richter International Piano Competition under NAXOS Label.

Competition's schedule is now available.


October 2007

The competition Jury composing is close to completion. The Jury will consist of conductors, composers, critics and performing musicians who do not teach the piano as a primary subject.

The Jury members list will be published at a later date.

January 10, 2007

According to the regulation No.218 of the Government of the Russian Federation from April 17, 2006, the prize money of the Sviatoslav Richter Competition is exempt from taxation in Russia. The regulation also covered the prizes of the First competition.
